Goyang City Art Creation Space Haum Participates in 'Public Design Festival 2024'

Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 25th that the art creation space Haeum (hereinafter Haeum) has been designated as an official participant in the 'Public Design Festival 2024.'

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon), together with the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, will hold the 'Public Design Festival 2024' at over 180 locations nationwide from the 25th to November 3rd. Marking its third year, the festival adopts the slogan 'Inclusion,' focusing on the value of public design in creatively solving social issues and enhancing quality of life, as well as expanding its social role.

Haeum is the sole participating institution from Goyang City in the festival and will showcase exhibitions and public art projects during the festival period, highlighting the unique characteristics of the art creation space.

First, the Haeum exhibition hall will be filled with solo exhibitions by artists Seo Jeong-bae (painting) and Yoo Ri-seong (sculpture), welcoming visitors with diverse works. Artist Seo Jeong-bae expressed the intense emotions felt this summer through a painting diary, while artist Yoo Ri-seong playfully incorporated experiences of childbirth and parenting into objects.

Additionally, Haeum artists Kwon Jae-hyun and Lee Hyuk-jong will construct an 'eco-friendly pavilion' outdoors at Haeum using byproducts from Ilsan Lake Park as the main materials. This pavilion is planned as an 'art commons' open to everyone, not just a space for resident artists. Once completed, the pavilion will host side programs such as roundtable discussions and experiential events.

During the festival, various programs will be held at over 180 public design hubs nationwide, including Goyang City's Haeum.
