Gyeonggi-do Hwaseong City, set to become the fifth special city nationwide in January next year, is immersing itself in a 'Festival of Lights.'
Hwaseong City will hold the '2024 Hwaseong Luna Light Festival' on the 26th at Dongtan Lake Park, a representative local attraction. Hosted by the city and organized by the Hwaseong Cultural Foundation, this year's event features various performances, exhibitions, and experiential programs themed around 'light,' 'moon,' and 'space.'
The festival will begin with an orchestra performance by the Hwaseong City Arts Troupe, followed by performances from local art groups and a drone show equipped with fireworks above the park. The event will also include a 'Luna Disco Party,' a DJ party using dedicated headphones to eliminate noise. The organizers plan to conduct the event through pre-registration but will recruit additional participants on-site for any no-shows.
Attendees can enjoy the 'Luna Moonlight Walk,' strolling through the lake park while watching the Luna show, view media art created by citizens, and participate in various light-related experiential programs. Light tunnels and various sculptures harmonizing with the surrounding trees will also be installed at the venue.
Visitors can also experience 'Ore: Light Water Pagoda,' an interactive exhibition program prepared by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Content Agency, as well as the flea market 'Saenghwal Market Fine,' featuring local handmade craft workshops.
Since the park parking lot is expected to be full and traffic congestion is anticipated on the day of the event, the city and foundation urged visitors to use public transportation. Detailed information about the festival can be found on the Hwaseong Cultural Foundation website.
