About 87% Are Women... 76% Are Women in Their 30s to 50s
Job Characteristics Allowing Work-Life Balance with Housework and Childcare

Coway’s ‘Codi’ has been shown to contribute to the social advancement of women with career interruptions. Thanks to the flexibility of not having to adhere to fixed working hours and the ability to adjust work schedules accordingly, it has grown into a large-scale occupational group with over 12,000 members nationwide.

According to Coway on the 18th, about 87% of the approximately 12,000 Codis are women. This is interpreted as reflecting the nature of the work, which allows balancing household chores, childcare, and employment.

Unlike regular employees, Codis operate under a delegation contract with Coway and receive commissions for sales and inspection tasks as visiting inspection sales agents (freelance income earners). They sell Coway products to customers and provide management services such as regular inspections and filter replacements for rented products.

The relatively flexible working hours and the ability for Codis to adjust their own schedules make it possible to balance household duties and childcare with work, which is the biggest advantage. In particular, it helps women with career interruptions re-enter society. Women with career interruptions refer to those who have stopped economic activities or have never participated in economic activities due to reasons such as pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and family care, but wish to find employment. Coway Codis have a high proportion of women in their 30s to 50s, accounting for about 76% of the total workforce.

Kim Soon-hee (37), a Codi active in the Gyeongnam region, works on inspection tasks only during the time between dropping off and picking up her child from daycare, while also intermittently handling sales tasks. Lee Hee-eun (39), active in the Jeonbuk region, prefers to work freely and focuses solely on sales tasks without inspection duties. Additionally, there are Codis who concentrate inspection tasks on selected days of the month, Codis who perform only inspection tasks without sales, and Codis who work on alternate days, demonstrating various working styles.

The number of domestic management accounts under Coway is reported to reach 6.93 million. A Coway official explained, “This overwhelming account base enables visiting inspection sales agents to fundamentally solve the question of ‘where to find customers, to which customers to sell products, and how to provide services,’ making it easier for them to settle into their work.”

Coway provides Codis with health checkups every two years, gifts for holidays and the company’s anniversary, support for congratulatory and condolence events, and full payment of industrial accident insurance premiums, a national insurance system.

A Coway official emphasized, “For the past 26 years, Coway has actively provided opportunities for women, including those with career interruptions, to advance socially and has taken the lead in creating social value based on this. We will continue to support Codis, who are partners with Coway, so that they can smoothly carry out profit-generating activities in society.”
