The head of a hospital in Busan has been handed over to the prosecution on charges of pocketing illicit gains amounting to approximately 170 million won in exchange for using certain pharmaceuticals.
On the 17th, the Gangseo Police Station in Busan announced that they had sent a hospital director in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, along with five pharmaceutical wholesalers, to the prosecution on charges of violating the Medical Service Act.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of receiving cash and other valuables worth about 170 million won from five pharmaceutical wholesalers from mid-2020 until last June in exchange for using specific pharmaceuticals.
It was reported that Mr. A denied the charges during the police investigation.
Meanwhile, since March of this year, the police have been conducting a full-scale investigation into allegations of illegal rebates at clinics and hospitals. The investigation into illegal rebates is being expanded not only to this hospital but also to several hospitals located in Busan and Gyeongnam.
