Goyang-si Selected for Gyeonggi-do Mini Hydrogen City Project Support Contest... Secures 5 Billion KRW Provincial Funding

The First Hydrogen Production Facility in Northern Gyeonggi in 2027... Rising as an Eco-Friendly Energy City

Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 16th that it has secured 5 billion KRW in provincial funding after being selected for Gyeonggi Province's 'Mini Hydrogen City Creation Project' competition.

The city is promoting policies to expand eco-friendly hydrogen mobility support and applied for the Gyeonggi Province Mini Hydrogen City Creation Project to actively respond to future hydrogen demand and realize energy transition.

In this competition, the city proposed a 'Hydrogen Ecosystem Expansion Model' to lead hydrogen production, supply, and hydrogen mobility distribution, and received high evaluations for presenting a concrete plan to build infrastructure capable of meeting hydrogen demand.

To establish itself as a leading eco-friendly hydrogen energy city, the city signed a business agreement with Seoul City Gas Co., Ltd. and Goyang Urban Management Corporation on April 25 to prepare for the project. The Gyeonggi Province Mini Hydrogen City Creation Project is a 10 billion KRW project (5 billion KRW from the province and 5 billion KRW from the city) to be carried out over three years. Starting with the master plan establishment service in 2025, hydrogen production facilities will be installed from 2026 to 2027, with commercial operation scheduled to begin thereafter.

Once the mini hydrogen city is established, it will be able to produce 1 ton of hydrogen per day. This amount is sufficient to charge approximately 50 hydrogen buses or 200 hydrogen passenger cars.

Furthermore, while hydrogen production facilities have so far been concentrated only in the southern part of Gyeonggi Province, this competition will bring the first hydrogen production facilities to the northern region of Gyeonggi, enabling stable hydrogen supply to Goyang City even if hydrogen supply in other local areas faces disruptions.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City stated, “Through establishing a leading eco-friendly energy city, we will make Goyang Special City a healthy and clean city.”
