The drone soccer team of Subuk Elementary School in Damyang-gun is emerging as a ‘drone soccer powerhouse’ by achieving excellent results at the national drone soccer tournaments held on the 3rd and 6th of this month.

According to Damyang-gun on the 16th, Subuk Elementary School has about 20 members divided into three teams?Evergreen, Everfunji, and Little Ever?actively participating as the drone soccer team.

Among them, the 'Evergreen Team' raised its status by winning the runner-up prize at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s National Drone Soccer Tournament held in Namwon on the 3rd, followed by winning the gold prize at the 2nd Namwon Mayor’s Cup National Drone Soccer Tournament on the 6th. Additionally, the 'Everfunji Team' advanced to the quarterfinals at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s tournament, and the 'Little Ever Team,' composed of lower-grade students, experienced their first victory in their debut this year.

In fact, the Subuk Elementary School drone soccer team cannot even be called an official founding. It all started in 2022 when parents took the lead to open drone soccer classes at the Neulpureum Village School. Their experience is only three years, which is quite short. Without any dedicated stadium or practice field, they gather once or twice a week for two hours in the school gymnasium or the auditorium of the Subuk-myeon Welfare Center to practice. However, the students’ achievements are encouraging.

Last year, they won various domestic competitions including the 1st Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Youth Drone Soccer Tournament, the 4th Jeonju Mayor’s Cup Solnae National Youth Drone Soccer Tournament, and the 1st Goheung County Governor’s Cup Drone Soccer Tournament. They also participated in the Drone Soccer Championship international tournament held in Singapore, where they achieved an excellent 3rd place.

The Subuk Elementary School drone soccer team is aiming to win the 8th Air Force Chief of Staff Cup Drone Comprehensive Competition to be held in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, on the 26th.

Yoon Jin, director of Neulpureum Village School, said, “I feel very proud that the drone soccer, which started as a way to bond with my son who began learning drones, has grown to include local students learning together and achieving excellent results in national and international competitions. I am just proud and grateful to the parents of Neulpureum Village School who shared this vision and to the children who trusted and followed well.”

Director Yoon added, “With the support of Damyang-gun, Damyang Office of Education, and the local community, the children are nurturing their dreams through drone soccer. We are thankful and ask for lots of support.”
