[2024 National Audit] NHIS President: "Pseudonymized Data Will Not Be Released to Private Sector"

Jung Ki-seok, the President of the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS), firmly stated that he would "not allow private sector export" regarding concerns over medical personal information leakage.

On the 16th, the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee held a national audit targeting the NHIS and others. Nam In-soon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "The issue of medical big data is very serious," and asked, "So far, pseudonymized information has not been exported, but will it be in the future?" In response, President Jung said, "Pseudonymized information is exported to necessary government agencies or similar entities."

When Representative Nam asked again, "Does that mean private sector export is not allowed?" President Jung replied, "We have never exported to the private sector," and added, "If the situation does not change, we will not export in the future."

Representative Nam pointed out that disease information should be well managed by organizations such as the Insurance Development Institute. President Jung emphasized, "We will also thoroughly protect personal information in that area and provide only the necessary information so that individual identification is not possible."
