Eradicating Illegal Burning · Residents as Top Priority
Result of Active Interest and Effort
Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 16th that Gaya-eup Sanggeom Village and Sanin-myeon Jungchon Village have been selected as the ‘2024 Green Villages Without Open Burning Wildfires’ and held a plaque ceremony at the Sanggeom Village Hall on the 15th.
The ‘Green Village Campaign Without Open Burning Wildfires’ is a campaign implemented by the Korea Forest Service to eradicate illegal burning of rice paddies, field ridges, agricultural and forestry by-products, and waste, which are major causes of spring rural wildfires, and to strengthen wildfire prevention publicity and education. Villages that contribute to wildfire prevention through voluntary participation of residents are selected.
This year, in line with the purpose of the Green Village Campaign, Sanggeom Village and Jungchon Village, which strengthened illegal burning monitoring activities and led voluntary participation centered on the village community with the goal of preventing wildfire occurrences, were selected as excellent villages. The residents’ active interest and continuous efforts, prioritizing the eradication of illegal burning, played a major role in achieving this result.
At the plaque ceremony, County Governor Jo Geun-je said, “The selection of Green Villages Without Open Burning Wildfires is an achievement made possible by the active participation and cooperation of the residents,” and added, “I ask that local residents continue to take an interest in wildfire prevention and work together in the future.”
