Yongin City Supports Installation of Solar and Geothermal Power Facilities at 261 Locations in Cheoin-gu Area

Best Award in Renewable Energy Convergence Support Contest
30 Billion KRW Invested Including 1.05 Billion KRW National Funding

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will support the installation of renewable energy facilities such as solar and geothermal energy at 261 houses and buildings in the Cheoin-gu area.

On the 15th, Yongin City announced that it secured 1,053.29 million KRW in national funding after receiving the highest grade in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s '2025 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project' competition. This project is a nationwide contest held annually for local governments to increase the use of renewable energy through public-private cooperation.

The city explained that this marks the sixth consecutive year it has been selected for this project, and notably, it received the highest 'A' grade in the five-tier evaluation system introduced this year for differentiated national funding. A city official said, "We received the highest grade this year due to strong project performance over the past five years and thorough project management."

Including the national funding secured through this competition, the city plans to invest a total of 3 billion KRW to install ▲980 kW of solar power generation facilities ▲542.5 kW of geothermal power generation facilities ▲76㎡ of solar thermal collectors at 261 locations including houses and general buildings in Pogok-eup, Yangji-myeon, and Dongbu-dong in Cheoin-gu. This is the largest scale since the city began participating in the project.

The city estimates that once the newly installed renewable energy generation facilities are operational, they will produce 1,845 MWh of energy annually. This amount can replace 371 toe (tons of oil equivalent) of fossil energy.

Previously, from 2020 to this year, the city invested a total of 7.4 billion KRW, including 4 billion KRW in national funding, to support renewable energy facilities such as 4,750 kW of solar and geothermal power generation equipment in the Cheoin-gu area. The distribution of renewable energy facilities in energy-vulnerable areas of Cheoin-gu is also a pledge made by Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City during the 8th term of the local government.

The city plans to begin the installation work of renewable energy facilities by the end of next year, starting with a business agreement between resident representatives participating in the project and the participating company consortium in January.

Mayor Lee said, "The spread of renewable energy facilities not only saves electricity bills but also achieves carbon neutrality, creating a win-win effect," adding, "We will pay special attention to ensure the smooth progress of the project."
