Yeongdeok Youth Dance Team 'Kkumui Muyongdan Yeongdeok' Soars on the Streets of Nowon, Seoul

The Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation in North Gyeongsang Province announced that on September 28, the Yeongdeok youth dance team "Kkumui Muyongdan Yeongdeok" was invited to perform at the "2024 Dancing Nowon Street Festival" organized by the Nowon Cultural Foundation in Seoul, where they successfully completed their performance to great popularity.

"Kkumui Muyongdan Yeongdeok," an educational project by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, is a fusion education program of contemporary and street dance with 20 participants ranging from 5th-grade elementary to middle school students. Launched in 2023, the program is holding its 40th session this year.


Although only in its second year, both the original first group members and newly joined second group members have been invited to various festivals in and outside Yeongdeok, where they have showcased their honed skills and established themselves as the mascot of Yeongdeok.


As a result, this year they were invited to perform on stage in Seoul at the "Dancing Nowon Street Festival," known as one of Seoul’s representative brand festivals. The "2024 Dancing Nowon Street Festival" took place on September 28 and 29, divided into Parade Zone, Dancing Theme Zone, and Family Theme Zone. The "Kkumui Muyongdan Yeongdeok" team participated in the Parade Zone on the first day, where 37 teams each walked a 100-meter section and performed a five-minute dance performance.


For this street festival, the youth members of "Kkumui Muyongdan Yeongdeok" prepared a locking performance with the theme of "Minions" + "Hip-hop," and successfully completed their performance to the cheers of 100,000 citizens.


After the performance, they spent time interacting with other participating teams, watching B-boy stages and making friends through dance.


Jeon Yeongeun (Chuksan Middle School, 1st grade), who participated in this performance, shared, "It was my first time dancing in front of so many people, so I was very nervous. But after finishing the performance, I felt proud in a way I can't quite describe. Seeing the skilled dance teams in Seoul made me determined to improve even more."


"Kkumui Muyongdan Yeongdeok" is scheduled to perform the opening theme at the "Udada Festival," the Yeongdeok Lifestyle Culture Festival, on October 26, and will hold their second regular performance on December 7.
