DL E&C Applies Weight Class 2 Floor Structure for Interfloor Noise in First Site

'The Silent' Showcases 12 Noise Reduction Patented Technologies
First Introduced at Incheon Seo-gu 'ePyeonhansesang Geomdan Wellcounty'

DL E&C announced on the 7th that it has applied the inter-floor noise floor structure 'D-Silent' with a heavy impact sound grade 2 to an actual site for the first time in the industry.

The site is located in Seo-gu, Incheon, at 'e-Pyeonhansesang Geomdan Well County', marking the first large-scale application of a heavy grade 2 floor structure in domestic multi-family housing sites. Most existing apartments have applied heavy grade 3 floor structures.

The D-Silent floor structure incorporates 12 noise reduction patented technologies developed by DL E&C and was recognized for heavy grade 2 impact sound blocking performance in the 2021 floor impact sound performance evaluation by Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH). At that time, it was the highest level in the industry based on on-site evaluation standards. It consists of a five-stage sound insulation structure including high-performance crack-resistant special mortar, a double air-layer floor cushioning material developed through a technical partnership with BASF Germany, and vibration-proof concrete slabs.

DL E&C explained that the technology was completed by reinterpreting all fields related to inter-floor noise from the ground up, including structural systems, building materials, and soundproofing materials. This was the result of deploying PhD-level researchers in architectural structure and materials fields, as well as acoustic experts.

The D-Silent floor structure achieves noise blocking performance similar to the low-noise operation mode (41~43 dB) of household air conditioners. In particular, DL E&C expects high resident satisfaction with the noise reduction effect as this technology’s performance was recognized on-site rather than in a laboratory. Previously, even if heavy grade 2 was recognized in the lab, performance would drop to grades 3 to 4 when applied on actual sites.

A DL E&C official said, "It is significant that we applied the floor structure recognized as heavy grade 2 in on-site performance evaluation, not in a laboratory, for the first time in the industry," adding, "We will continue to strive to maintain the industry's best technological competitiveness related to inter-floor noise."

Meanwhile, DL E&C established the first technology research institute among domestic construction companies in 1980 and began research on inter-floor noise. In 2006, it built the first architectural environment research center in Korea capable of verifying housing performance and has conducted various studies since. Over the past five years, it has invested 81 researchers and 4.5 billion KRW in development costs, obtaining over 20 patents and focusing on technology development. Last year, it commercialized the 'D-Silence Service,' which notifies residents when inter-floor noise occurs.
