Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will hold a proclamation ceremony for "Mind Health City, Yongsan" on the 10th in celebration of Mental Health Day, aimed at helping residents recover and grow mentally. This event marks the beginning of the healing and recovery project called "Whole Heart Forest Project."
The proclamation ceremony will take place from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Yongsan-gu Art Hall Garam (150 Noksapyeong-daero, 1st floor).
Before the ceremony, about 10 graduate students from Sookmyung Women's University’s Music Therapy program will perform an orchestra concert. The main event will proceed in the order of a sand art performance, announcement of mind health policies, a performance, and a special lecture by a notable figure.
On this day, District Mayor Park Hee-young will introduce mind health policies for 15 minutes. The district plans to continue comprehensive support projects under the vision of "Whole Heart Forest Yongsan, warmly embracing you," including the establishment of a Mind Health Center, development of a mind care website, life-cycle tailored programs called "Mind Connection," specialized programs for different groups called "Mind Comfort," and mind health cultural development called "Mind Growth" to promote residents' mental health.
The special lecture by notable expert Director Kim Ji-yoon, a relationship specialist, will focus on "The Ability to Hear the Voice of the Mind and Methods of Empathy," detailing how to first understand one’s own mind and then empathize and communicate with others.
Side events include finding your personal mind color, experiencing sand art expression with your own hands, and operating a mind health self-check booth. A photo zone will also be set up where visitors can take commemorative photos with the "Yongsani" character, which is shaped like Namsan Tower. "Yongsani" is a mascot of Yongsan-type mind health, serving as a friendly figure responsible for support and comfort.
District Mayor Park Hee-young emphasized, "Everyone experiences times when their mental immunity drops like a cold and faces difficulties. We will take the lead in creating a community where everyone cares for each other’s minds, reducing social costs and enabling individuals to maintain a healthy daily life."
Meanwhile, the district began legislative notice on the 4th to enact an ordinance promoting mind health. The ordinance draft includes purposes, mind health promotion projects, establishment of dedicated psychological counseling institutions, local councils, and cooperative systems. Detailed information can be found on the district’s website.
