A scholarly conference where global artificial intelligence (AI) experts gather to assess the current state of AI technology and forecast its future will be held in Gwangju.

On the 7th, Gwangju City announced that it will host the "4th AICON Gwangju 2024" at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) Oryong Hall for three days from the 30th of this month to the 1st of next month.

"AICON Gwangju 2024" is a major domestic academic conference hosted by Gwangju City, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and organized by the AI Industry Convergence Project Group, where businesspeople, institutions, universities, and citizens come together to discuss AI technology.

Notably, this conference is attracting great attention as many world-renowned AI experts will attend, including Timothy Papandreou, CEO of Emerging Transport Advisors in the United States, and Christopher Days, Vice President of DHL Germany.

The event also offers various programs in which citizens and youth can participate. The "AI Debate Competition" provides an opportunity for teenagers and university students to discuss AI-related topics in a non-competitive format. Additionally, an AI cluster exhibition hall will be set up at GIST Oryong Hall, allowing visitors to experience products and services from companies.

Kim Yong-seung, Director of the AI Industry Office of Gwangju City, said, "This event will be an important opportunity to further solidify Gwangju's status as a leading AI city," and added, "We ask for much interest and participation in this event, where people can directly experience the present and future of AI technology and promote global cooperation."
