Professional baseball infielder Hwang Jae-gyun (37) of the KT Wiz and former girl group T-ara member Ji-yeon (31) are getting divorced. On the 5th, JTBC reported that the two submitted a divorce mediation application to the Seoul Family Court last month and are currently undergoing divorce proceedings. Previously, they had denied multiple rumors of divorce, but it has now been confirmed to be true.

First, on June 25, commentator Lee Kwang-gil mentioned their divorce while broadcasting the baseball game between the SSG Landers and KT Wiz on KNN, a broadcaster in the Busan and Gyeongnam area. During the commercial break between innings, he was heard asking the caster on live radio, "Did you know? Hwang Jae-gyun got divorced." As the controversy grew, the commentator apologized through the media, saying, "I heard the news from a newspaper before the broadcast. It was my fault for speaking without verifying. I am truly sorry." Shortly after, Ji-yeon announced the suspension of her YouTube activities on her social media, stating, "Due to personal reasons, I will be unable to upload YouTube videos for a while. I ask for the understanding of my subscribers. I will return with a bright appearance."

Later, on September 1, Hwang Jae-gyun was under scrutiny for holding a gathering with acquaintances, including women, at a bar in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, until around 6 a.m. A citizen filed a complaint with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) through the National Petition System, requesting a thorough investigation into Hwang’s "hunting bar late-night drinking incident." However, the KBO stated, "The matter concerning player Hwang Jae-gyun is related to his personal life and not considered an act damaging the dignity as defined in Article 151 of the KBO regulations," and thus cannot impose disciplinary action. Ji-yeon, who had not commented on the controversy, resumed her activities by uploading a new video on her YouTube channel on the 20th of last month. However, in the video, she was seen not wearing a wedding ring on her hand.

Meanwhile, Hwang Jae-gyun and Ji-yeon announced their marriage on February 10, 2022. They held their wedding ceremony on December 10 of the same year at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul.
