The heads of the U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) are set to meet.

On the 1st (local time), the U.S. Golf Channel reported that "Jay Monahan, PGA Tour Commissioner, and Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of PIF, have been paired together with professional players on the first day of the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which opens on the 3rd." This tournament is held across three courses in Scotland: the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links, and Kingsbarns Golf Links. Professional and amateur players team up to compete.


In the first round, Monahan will play alongside Billy Horschel (USA) of the PGA Tour, while Al-Rumayyan will team up with Dean Burmester (South Africa) of LIV Golf, sponsored by PIF. In the third round at the Old Course at St Andrews, Monahan will partner with Louis Oosthuizen (South Africa) of LIV Golf, and Al-Rumayyan will team up with Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) of the PGA Tour.

The meeting between Monahan and Al-Rumayyan has attracted attention in the golf world as it occurs amid unresolved merger negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. The PGA Tour has criticized LIV Golf for poaching players with large sums of money but has been engaged in merger talks since last year. Both organizations have indicated that productive discussions are underway, but no concrete results have yet been achieved.
