A shooting attack occurred on the 1st (local time) at a light rail station in the Jaffa district of Tel Aviv, Israel, resulting in 6 deaths and 10 injuries, according to the daily newspaper The Guardian.
According to reports, around 7 p.m. that day, two assailants got off a train stopped at the Erlich light rail station in the Jaffa district of Tel Aviv and opened fire and attacked people on the street with knives. CCTV footage showed two men dressed in black, carrying assault rifles on their shoulders and holding knives, getting off the train and moving onto the main road while attacking people. They were shortly thereafter shot dead by station security personnel and police officers.
Currently, 5 of the 10 injured are in critical condition. A witness told The Jerusalem Post, "While I was on the light rail, I suddenly heard gunshots outside," adding, "There were many gunshots." A nearby shop owner also said, "People rushed in shouting 'terror attack,'" and "I quickly closed the shutters and locked the door."
This shooting incident occurred just before Iran's missile attack against Israel. Accordingly, The Guardian reported that questions are being raised as to whether this shooting was coordinated in any way with Iran's attack. Authorities have also classified the incident as a terrorist act. The area where the incident occurred is a place where Jews and Arabs live together. The police stated, "The suspects are not Israeli citizens, and their places of origin have been identified," adding that they are investigating the motives behind the crime.
