Governor Kim Taeheum: "Fireworks Still Used at Local Festivals... Please Refrain"

Chungnam Governor Kim Taehoon has once again urged local festivals to refrain from using fireworks in order to reduce carbon emissions.

Governor Kim has continuously requested that city and county festivals in the province avoid using fireworks as part of efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

However, fireworks displays were held at recent events such as the Heungtaryeong Dance Festival and the Baekje Cultural Festival opening ceremonies in Cheonan, Gongju, and Buyeo. Fireworks are also scheduled for upcoming festivals including the Gyeryong Military Culture Festival and the Yesan Uijoheunhyeongje Festival.

At the department head meeting held on the 30th, Governor Kim pointed out, "As a province designated for a special carbon-neutral economy, I have asked local festivals to refrain from using fireworks that emit carbon monoxide, but fireworks are still being used at these events."

He also added, "Not only fireworks, but the use of disposable cups continues as well," and urged, "Please make efforts to improve aspects that pose environmental problems."
