Former Bodybuilder Who Assaulted Woman Demanding "Move Your Car" Sentenced to Prison Again in Second Trial

Last year, a former bodybuilder who assaulted a woman demanding to move a double-parked car in an apartment complex parking lot in Incheon was sentenced to imprisonment again in the appellate court.

The 2-1 Criminal Appeals Division of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Lee Suhwan) dismissed the appeal of A (39), who was charged with joint injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, and sentenced him to two years in prison, the same as the first trial, at the appellate sentencing hearing on the 27th.

The court stated, "Although A deposited 100 million won with the court for the victim, the victim still complains of physical and mental suffering and continues to plead for severe punishment," and judged, "It is difficult to see that the damage has been restored to the extent of a settlement." It added, "Considering the sentencing circumstances, the original sentence does not deviate from a reasonable range and is not recognized as excessively heavy or light," and declared, "The appeals of both the defendant and the prosecution are dismissed."

A was charged with violently assaulting a woman in her 30s, B, with fists and feet at around 11 a.m. on May 20 last year in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Namdong-gu, Incheon.

At the time, B called to ask A to move his car that was blocking her vehicle, leading to an argument when A arrived at the scene. During the altercation, A grabbed B by the hair, threw her to the ground, and assaulted her with fists and other means. As a result, B suffered injuries including broken ribs and was diagnosed with a six-week recovery period. Although A and his wife claimed mutual assault, the release of black box footage showing the assault caused a major controversy.

During the police investigation last year, A was released without detention after the court dismissed the arrest warrant but was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial on May 1 and was detained in court about a year after the incident. The first trial court stated, "Considering the fact that the victim was assaulted unilaterally, a prison sentence was inevitable."

A’s wife, who was present at the scene, was also criminally charged last year for joint injury but was not investigated by the police due to her pregnancy and was recently sent to the prosecution without detention. A, a former bodybuilder known to have won several domestic competitions, reportedly closed the gym he operated after the incident.
