Defamation and Insult Charges
A civic group has filed a complaint against a professor in the Department of Sociology at Hanshin University who is reported to have made insulting remarks about Japanese military comfort women victims during a lecture.
On the 24th, the civic group Seomin Minsaeng Countermeasure Committee (Seominwi) announced that it had filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency the previous day against Professor Yoon of Hanshin University's Department of Sociology on charges of defamation and insult.
Earlier this month, during a lecture, Professor Yoon caused controversy by describing the Jeju 4.3 Incident as a communist riot and making remarks that seemed to imply the involvement of external forces such as North Korea in the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.
In another lecture, he made statements such as there being no evidence that Japanese military comfort women victims were forcibly conscripted, which led students to demand disciplinary action from the school.
Seominwi explained the reason for the complaint, stating, "The defendant's irresponsible thinking can completely shake the common sense and principles that support this society."
