The 'Village Garden Project' hosted by Gyeonggi Province is a project that transforms idle land and vacant lots requiring environmental improvement into gardens. It is promoted in two categories: 'Citizen Participation Village Garden,' where village communities lead and participate from planning to creation, and 'Garden for All,' where the city creates gardens capable of hosting education and programs. In this contest, Icheon City explained that five out of 14 locations were selected in the Citizen Participation Village Garden category.
The village garden projects selected this time are ▲ Naraeri Bangatgan Village Garden in Naraeri ▲ Byeotdeul Garden in Deokpyeong 1-ri in Deokpyeong Fields ▲ Dream Flower Garden Blooming Together in Ocheon 4·5-ri ▲ Record Garden in Songmalli ▲ Village Guardian Juniper Garden in Sanseong 2-ri.
Meanwhile, the village garden creation project is open to communities of 10 or more people who can create and maintain gardens. Eligible sites include vacant lots, idle land, small parcels, and old parks within the village. Selected projects receive a budget of 150 million to 200 million KRW per village garden.
Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon City, said, "The village garden project will provide an opportunity for citizens to experience an open garden culture," adding, "We will strive to spread a garden culture that citizens can experience together."
