[NE Coffee Chat] My Blog Translated into 18 Languages by AI... Multilingual Blog Platform 'Durumis'

Blog AI written in Korean translated into 18 languages
Visitors from 220 countries worldwide searching for Korean information
"The ultimate goal is a knowledge information platform"

A blog written in Korean is gaining traction not only in Japan, Europe, and the United States but also in Iraq. This is not just because of the Korean Wave increasing interest in Korean content. It is possible thanks to the multilingual blog platform ‘Durumis.’ Durumis uses artificial intelligence (AI) to translate blogs written in Korean and spread the content to over 220 countries worldwide.

Jung Min-seok, CEO of Durumis, explained on the 24th, "When you write a blog post through Durumis, AI summarizes it, extracts the topic, posts it, and translates it into 18 languages," adding, "It is a platform service that ensures exposure in searches regardless of the language, whether English, French, or others."

Jung, a physics graduate from Hanyang University who started a startup with his younger brother, once saw his brother struggling to translate blog content into foreign languages. This inspired him to develop a service that translates blogs using AI, which eventually led to the founding of Durumis.

The strength of Durumis lies in making blogs easily discoverable on Google search. Google holds nearly 90% of the global search market share. However, blogs written in Korean are not easily exposed when searched in languages other than Korean, making it difficult for overseas users to access them. In contrast, Durumis uses AI to handle everything from blog translation to summarization to ensure high rankings in search results.

Jung said, "Overseas, people often refer to blogs when gathering information, and it has been found that on average, one person reads six blogs per month," adding, "Out of the 8 billion people worldwide, 5.3 billion use blogs, and monthly page views are estimated at 31.8 billion."

The more exposure a blog gets on Google search, the higher the blogger’s revenue. Durumis integrates Google AdSense into blogs. AdSense is a service by Google that connects ads to content creators’ sites and provides advertising revenue; the more visitors, the higher the expected earnings. For example, 10 million page views generate an average revenue of 10 million KRW.

Since its launch in February, Durumis has been growing every month. In May, the number of visitors was less than 50,000, but this month it has approached 500,000. Currently, the number of Durumis service subscribers is about 3,000. Among them, 28% are from Korea, 22% from India, and 14% from Indonesia, showing a diverse range of nationalities using the service. Visitors from Google searches have exceeded 10,000, and it is expected to approach 100,000 by the end of the year. Durumis’ revenue has been growing 240% monthly this year, and it is projected to earn 13.5 billion KRW by 2026.

Jung said, "Currently, Durumis is visited from over 220 countries, with the most access from France and Japan, mainly searching for Korean dramas and actors," adding, "Surprisingly, there is also a significant number of visits from Iraq, which seems to be due to the influence of the Korean Wave."

Durumis continues to add features. Recently, it was updated to allow searches within the service. He said, "The direction the service pursues is to share information globally," and added, "I want to let people around the world know about the diverse aspects of Korea."
