Charging Paradigm Shift: From Wired to Wireless Revolution
Gyeongbuk Technopark announced on the 13th that, as the lead agency for the Gyeongbuk Next-Generation Wireless Charging Regulation-Free Zone for Electric Vehicles designated in 2022, it will simultaneously launch three demonstration projects related to "wireless charging for electric vehicles."
The Gyeongbuk Electric Vehicle Wireless Charging Zone is the first in Korea to promote such demonstrations, consisting of three detailed projects: ▲ demonstration of high-power (22kW class) wireless charging at urban hub gas stations ▲ demonstration of wired charger-linked wireless charging by adding a wireless charging function to existing wired chargers ▲ demonstration of wireless charging for ultra-compact electric vehicles suitable for short-distance travel and special purposes such as delivery and courier services.
Gyeongbuk, which has been leading the regional economy with Korea's third-largest automobile parts industry, was designated as a special zone in September 2022 to foster a new industrial ecosystem for wireless charging technology for electric vehicles.
Currently, eight domestic companies in the electric vehicle wireless charging sector will carry out the special zone project for a total of four years, until August 2026.
Due to existing regulations and laws, the commercialization of the electric vehicle wireless charging industry was not possible. However, with the establishment of the regulation-free zone for wireless charging, four regulatory exemptions have been granted, providing an opportunity for demonstration in order to advance the nation's new industries.
Since the designation of the special zone, Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongsan City, and Gyeongbuk Technopark have been closely cooperating and promoting all necessary tasks for the launch of demonstrations, including ▲ preparing measures to fulfill subsidiary conditions ▲ forming and participating in a safety inspection committee ▲ notifying users ▲ supporting liability insurance for special zone operators.
Ha Inseong, President of Gyeongbuk Technopark, stated, "We will ensure the safe and successful implementation of the demonstration in the Gyeongbuk Electric Vehicle Wireless Charging Special Zone, leading the establishment of a future vehicle industry belt for mutual growth in the Gyeongbuk region, increasing new demand and sales for companies, and creating high-quality new jobs."
