Busan Urban Corporation to Pay 43.8 Billion Won Including Construction Fees Before Chuseok Holiday

170 Cases Paid... Workplace Wage Arrears ZERO Inspection

410 Billion Won in Construction Payments and 2.8 Billion Won in Goods and Services Before Chuseok

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) will pay approximately 43.8 billion KRW in construction, service, and goods fees ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

BMC has disbursed around 41 billion KRW for 170 cases, including progress and completion payments for construction, and about 2.8 billion KRW for goods and services, to invigorate local construction companies struggling with rapid increases in material and labor costs since the end of last year, and to prevent wage arrears for construction workers before the Chuseok holiday.

In addition, BMC is strengthening management to prevent wage arrears at worksites. Since last month, BMC has conducted inspections for wage arrears at 32 sites under its management, including the Eco Delta City public housing construction project, and has found no problematic cases to date.

BMC plans to continue its efforts to prevent unfair disadvantages to contractors and workers who have rightfully earned their wages by separately managing labor costs and utilizing the Public Procurement Service’s subcontractor monitoring program for contract management.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, “We aim to support local construction companies facing liquidity difficulties by ensuring timely payments, not only for the holiday but for all construction fees,” and added, “We will continue to manage wage arrears and safety issues at project sites so that all workers can enjoy a pleasant holiday.”
