Amid the decision to approve new nuclear power plant construction in South Korea for the first time in 8 years and 3 months, TS Nexgen has completed preparations to restart its nuclear power plant business.
TS Nexgen announced on the 13th that it recently renewed its 'KEPIC Certification' after undergoing the KEPIC (Korea Electric Power Industry Code) certification review.
The 'KEPIC Certification' is a qualification system established to ensure the safety and reliability of power facilities such as nuclear power plants. The Korea Electrical Association evaluates and manages the qualifications of organizations and personnel selected under its criteria to perform tasks regulated by KEPIC.
The 'KEPIC-MH' (Korea Electric Power Industry Code-Mechanical HVAC) certification that TS Nexgen obtained this time is for air conditioning equipment used in HVAC systems related to the safety of nuclear power plants. The validity period lasts until July 23, 2027.
'KEPIC-MH' is considered an essential requirement for manufacturing air conditioning equipment such as dampers and louvers used in nuclear facilities. It is known that only four companies in South Korea hold this certification: TS Nexgen, LG Electronics, Century, and Hi-Air Korea.
Additionally, since being designated as a KEPCO Nuclear Facility Q-grade qualified company in March 1995, TS Nexgen has been manufacturing and supplying dampers and louvers not only to domestic nuclear power plants but also to overseas nuclear power plants. The Q-grade is a safety grade representing the highest level.
TS Nexgen plans to actively participate in domestic nuclear power plant construction projects. With new nuclear power plants being built in South Korea for the first time in 8 years and 3 months, the external growth of TS Nexgen’s nuclear power business is expected.
According to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission on the 12th, at the '200th meeting' held that day, the construction permit for Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 was reviewed and approved. As a result, the domestic nuclear power industry will build new nuclear power plants for the first time in 8 years and 3 months since the construction permit was granted for Saeul Units 3 and 4 (formerly Shin Kori Units 5 and 6) in June 2016. Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 are 1400 MW pressurized water reactors (APR1400). They have the same design as the currently operating Saeul Units 1 and 2 and Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2.
A company official said, “TS Nexgen has a track record of supplying to domestic nuclear power plants including Shin Kori Units 1 to 4 and Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2, as well as experience in supplying to nuclear power plants overseas such as in the United Arab Emirates. With extensive experience and know-how in the nuclear power plant business sector, we plan to actively participate in domestic new nuclear power projects. Having completed preparations for domestic and international nuclear power projects, including obtaining KEPIC certification, we will achieve tangible results.”
