Recently, Starbucks in China has been struggling due to ill-mannered customers.
On the 11th, a post titled "Current Situation of Starbucks in China" was uploaded on a domestic online community. The post included several videos filmed inside Starbucks stores in China. The footage captured some customers engaging in inappropriate behavior, such as preparing wild greens and playing baduk inside the store. There were also shocking scenes of people eating outside food and getting eyelash extensions.
Recently, as the heatwave intensifies in China, many customers have been visiting Starbucks to escape the heat. Especially since Starbucks operates a policy allowing people to stay in the store or use the restroom without purchasing drinks, it seems even more people are gathering there.

As more and more people flock to Starbucks, concerns have also been raised locally. "It is impolite to occupy a seat for a long time without ordering in someone else's business place," they said, calling the behavior excessive. They voiced opinions such as "Starbucks should change its policy," "People pay to rent spaces elsewhere, but this is unacceptable," and "At least guide customers to order one Americano."
Domestic netizens who saw the videos also expressed shock. Comments included, "Typical China class," "It's beyond imagination, I can only laugh," "Chinese people are indifferent even when they see things like this, right?", "Starbucks will probably withdraw from China soon," "Amazing," "A country that surprises no matter how many times you see it," "If it were me, I would never go if there were people like that," "I'm scared Korea will become like this too," and "If you have any conscience, at least order one Americano."
Meanwhile, controversies over Chinese people's poor manners have continued domestically as well. In June, a shocking scene was captured of a boy, presumed to be a Chinese tourist, lowering his pants and urinating next to his guardian on a main road in Jeju. As these controversies over Chinese tourists' poor manners continued, the police conducted "foreigners' basic order guidance and crackdown" operations around Jeju in the same month.
