After being recorded as 'U-turn' in the system at the parking lot, parking backward without leaving to use it for free
Gimpo City "Will discuss disciplinary action based on investigation results"
Public officials in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province, have been found to have engaged in 'illegal parking' by not paying fees for an extended period at a paid parking lot, putting them at risk of criminal charges and disciplinary action.
On the 6th, the Gimpo Police Station in Gyeonggi announced that two public officials, including Mr. A from Gimpo-si, were booked without detention on charges of fraudulent use of convenience facilities. Mr. A and others are suspected of repeatedly parking without paying fees at a paid parking lot in Gimpo from early this year until July.
According to the police, they would drive straight to the exit once the barrier at the entrance opened upon entering the parking lot, receive a 'U-turn' processing in the system, and then park by reversing without leaving the parking lot. They exploited the fact that when 'U-turn' processing is registered in the system, the parking lot can be used free of charge regardless of the parking duration.
Their crime was uncovered after Mr. B, who operates the parking lot, filed a complaint with the police. In the complaint, he stated, "Public officials in Gimpo-si have not paid fees for using the paid parking lot for an extended period." He further claimed, "Due to their deceptive parking behavior, approximately 1.4 million KRW in parking fees, including 1 million KRW and 400,000 KRW respectively, were not collected."
It is known that seven other public officials from Gimpo-si, excluding the two including Mr. A, are also under police investigation for the same charges. A Gimpo-si official said, "Through internal investigations, we confirmed that a total of nine public officials are being investigated by police stations in Gimpo and other regions," adding, "We plan to discuss disciplinary measures based on the investigation results."
