Theater, Dance, and Classical Performances Presented Across the Country
Next month, the entire Republic of Korea will be immersed in performances. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center will hold the 'Korea is Performing' festival from October 4 to November 10.
This event is designed for the public to enjoy theater, dance, classical music, and more across the country. It will be expanded as a platform for domestic distribution and overseas advancement in connection with the Seoul Art Market, Seoul International Performing Arts Festival, and Welcome Daehangno.
At major venues such as the National Theater, Seoul Arts Center, and Myeongdong Art Theater, artists representing the performing arts scene will take the stage. At the Seoul Arts Center’s Jayu Small Theater, six works will be introduced under the title "Another Shining Theater." These include Theater Company 76’s representative work "Audience Insult," Ddungttanji’s "Rhinoceros," and Cornerstone Theater Company’s "The Blind." "Rhinoceros" is an absurd play by Ionesco, and "The Blind" is an adaptation of Oh Young-jin’s 1943 play "The Wedding at Maengjinsa’s House."
At Myeongdong Art Theater, performances by prominent dance companies will be held consecutively. These include An Ae-sun Company’s "Chuck," Choi Sang-cheol Dance Company’s "Their Debate," 99 Art Company’s "The Birth of a Story," Choi Sung-ok Meta Dance Project’s "Oh! Ophelia Ophelia," and Dance Project Jaewon’s "The Day Before Episode." Leading Korean actors will also appear to read plays aloud.
At the National Theater’s Haeoreum Theater, artists active on the world stage from national arts organizations will illuminate the stage. These include the National Symphony Orchestra, pianist Park Jae-hong, the National Ballet Company, the National Gugak Orchestra, Kim Deok-su Samulnori Troupe, vocalists Yang Jun-mo, Samuel Yoon, Lim Se-kyung, KBS Symphony Orchestra, and guitarist Park Kyu-hee.
High-quality performances can also be experienced in the Gimhae and Gyeongnam areas, where the National Sports Festival is held, as well as in Namwon, Jeonbuk, the host city of the "Month of Culture." The National Choir, National Gugak Center, National Busan Gugak Center, and "Kim Hwa-sook & Modern Dance Company Sapo" will perform to enliven the atmosphere.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center will support integrated promotion so that the public can easily access information about performances held in each region. Various themed performance-related contents will be posted on the official "Korea is Performing" website and social media channels. In addition, major performance tickets will be sold at a 30-40% discount, and audiences who watch multiple performances and provide certification will receive small gifts.
