Park Golf, a sport gaining popularity among people of all ages and genders, is rapidly expanding its base and establishing itself as a popular public sport. Local governments are eagerly investing in expanding park golf facilities wherever land is available.
In line with this trend, Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju held a "Discussion Forum on the Development Direction of Park Golf," attracting public attention. On the 4th, Gwangsan-gu hosted the forum at the 7th-floor Yunsangwon Hall, with about 150 participants including experts and residents.
The forum began with a presentation by Professor Park Young-ho of the Department of Social Physical Education at Keimyung University, followed by speeches from Professor Choi Seung-sik of the Department of Martial Arts Management at Nambu University, Professor Kim Min-chul of the Department of Sports Industry at Chosun University, and Oh Hyung-kyo, auditor of the Gwangsan-gu Park Golf Association.
During the discussion, various opinions were presented regarding the development and exploration of park golf, including the responsibility of park golf courses and securing their public nature.
Professor Choi Seung-sik stated, “Park golf courses operated by local governments have the advantage of improved accessibility for residents and fair management, but there are also drawbacks such as administrative inefficiency. It is necessary to seek effective operational methods considering these pros and cons.”
Park Byung-gyu, mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “In response to the rapidly increasing demand for park golf, we will improve infrastructure expansion and management operations to ensure users do not experience any inconvenience.”
Meanwhile, Gwangsan-gu plans to continuously expand infrastructure, including Seobong Park Golf Course, the largest in Gwangju, and the Imgok Park Golf Course scheduled to open in October this year.
