'60 Years of Flavor and Fun', Gukbap Festival at Suncheon Utjang

Suncheon’s Signature Festival... 11th Edition This Year

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Nogwan-gyu) will hold the 'Gukbap Festival' at Suncheon Ujjang on the 8th.

Every year, September 8th is designated as 'Gukbap Day,' inspired by the harmonious pronunciation of 9 (gu) and 8 (pal).

This festival is celebrating its 11th edition since its first event in 2012 and has become one of Suncheon's representative festivals.

In particular, Suncheon Ujjang Gukbap, boasting a history of over 60 years, has gained nationwide fame for its unique cooking method and taste.

Unlike regular gukbap, it does not use 'dwaeji changja' (pig intestines) but only uses boiled pork head meat, resulting in a clear broth flavor and a clean aftertaste.

Thanks to the generous hospitality of offering one free plate of suyuk (boiled pork slices) when ordering two or more servings of gukbap, the Ujjang Gukbap street is always lively with visitors coming from all over the country to enjoy it.

This festival offers various programs such as instant quizzes and roulette prize events for customers, promising unforgettable enjoyment for visitors.

Additionally, various events including invited singer performances, singing contests, and wish-writing experiences are prepared, making it a special day to enjoy with family, friends, and lovers.

A Suncheon city official said, “We hope many citizens and tourists participate and share the joy of the festival,” adding, “We also hope this festival will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing not only Ujjang but also the surrounding local economy.”
