Retired Soldier, Injured to the Point of Bleeding from the Face
A wealthy Chinese woman who attempted to drive in the wrong direction in the middle of the road was stopped by a nearby driver who was a former soldier. The angry woman reportedly got out of her car and brutally assaulted the driver.
On the 4th (local time), Hong Kong media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP) highlighted an incident that occurred on the 28th of last month on a road in Qingdao, Shandong Province, eastern China. At the time, a woman named Wang (38) suddenly tried to reverse and make a U-turn into the opposite lane while driving on the road.
However, Wang's dangerous attempt was stopped by another vehicle nearby. After several attempts to reverse, Wang's car reportedly slightly collided with a bus that was stopped behind her. Enraged, Wang got out of her car and immediately started verbally abusing the driver. Witnesses recorded Wang’s rampage, and the footage spread on local social media platforms.
In the video, Wang can be seen insulting the driver for obstructing her and even assaulting him. The driver reportedly suffered severe injuries, bleeding from his mouth and nose. However, he did not retaliate against Wang.
When a witness tried to intervene and stop Wang, she shouted at him, "So what if I didn’t follow traffic rules? I hit this person, so this person (the driver) should be responsible," and challenged, "If you have the courage to call the police, then call them."
The day after the incident, on the 29th, local authorities reportedly issued Wang a 10-day administrative detention order for assaulting another person and fined her 1,000 yuan (approximately 18,000 KRW).
A citizen who witnessed Wang’s rampage said she was driving a Land Rover Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) worth 180,000 dollars (about 240 million KRW). According to the media, Wang originally came from a small village but moved to the city after marriage and was known to be wealthy enough to have run a clothing store in the past.
Meanwhile, the assaulted driver, Lin (26), enlisted in the Chinese military in 2019 and served for three years before being discharged as a veteran. He is reportedly working as a tour guide at a hotel with his wife.
After the incident, Lin posted on social media, "I did not fight (with Wang). It was not out of fear but because I was concerned about the children in the car," emphasizing, "I believe China will support me. The government must ensure justice, and my dignity as a soldier must be protected." Lin also revealed that he spent 4,000 yuan (about 75,000 KRW) on medical expenses following the incident.
Following the spread of his post and the video of Wang’s assault, Chinese social media was flooded with criticism directed at Wang. Netizens praised Lin as "someone worthy of respect," while criticizing Wang with comments such as, "Lin spent 4,000 yuan, but Wang only received a 1,000 yuan fine, which is unreasonable," "This is unfair. Conduct a proper trial," and "At the very least, Lin should receive financial compensation."
Subsequently, on the 3rd, Chinese investigative authorities announced that Wang had officially apologized to Lin and expressed willingness to cover his medical expenses.
