Yongin City Conducts Origin Labeling Inspection of Agricultural, Livestock, and Marine Products Ahead of Chuseok

Products Sold by Wholesale and Retail Businesses and Restaurants Until the End of This Month

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that it will conduct special origin inspections and guidance on agricultural, livestock, and marine products until the 30th of this month in preparation for the Chuseok holiday. The inspections will involve 22 city and district office officials and honorary monitors.

The inspection targets include jesa (ancestral rite) items such as jujube, dried persimmons, chestnuts, bracken, red beans, and frozen pollack sold by wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, ready-to-eat food vendors, and online sellers within the region, as well as livestock products such as beef, pork, and chicken, and agricultural, livestock, and marine products included in fruit baskets and gift items. The city plans to focus particularly on inspecting the origin labeling of marine products with a high violation rate, such as pollack, squid, croaker, red sea bream, and octopus.

The main inspection points are ▲ false (fraudulent) origin labeling and confusing labeling ▲ failure to label origin and violations of labeling methods ▲ keeping and storing receipts or transaction evidence indicating origin. If violations found during the inspection are minor, immediate corrective action will be taken on-site, but serious violations will be subject to administrative measures such as fines according to relevant laws.

A city official stated, "We will focus inspections on items expected to see increased demand before and after the Chuseok holiday to ensure that citizens can consume with confidence."
