Resentment from Childhood Domestic Violence
A man in his 20s who killed his grandfather with a weapon in anger after hearing that his grandmother had been assaulted was brought to trial in custody.
On the 30th, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-yong) announced that the day before, they had indicted a man in his 20s, Mr. A, on charges of killing a direct ascendant while in custody.
Mr. A is accused of going to the home of his grandfather, Mr. B, in his 70s, located in Geumho-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at around 12:30 a.m. on the 6th, after drinking alcohol, and stabbing Mr. B with a weapon, resulting in his death. Mr. B was taken to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away.
According to the prosecution, at the time of the incident, Mr. A was known as Mr. B’s son, but it was confirmed that he was registered as a son on the family relation registry but was actually his grandson.
Prosecutors' investigation revealed that Mr. A had harbored resentment toward Mr. B, who had abused him during his childhood and mistreated his grandmother, and on the day of the incident, while intoxicated, he could no longer contain his accumulated anger and committed the crime.
The prosecution stated, "We will do our best to maintain the prosecution so that the defendant receives a sentence commensurate with the crime."
