Commemorative Event from 10 AM on September 5: Celebration Performances, Awards for Meritorious Persons, Experience and Promotion Booths Galore
Mapo-gu, the Standard for Gender Equality, Becomes the First Seoul District to be a Women-Friendly City for the Third Consecutive Time
Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the ‘2024 Gender Equality Week Commemoration Event’ on September 5th at the district office plaza in celebration of Gender Equality Week (September 1?7).
This event was organized to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality with residents and to realize a practical gender-equal society across politics, economy, society, and culture.
Starting at 10 a.m. with a congratulatory performance by vocalist Hwang Sang-mi, the event will continue with awards for contributors to the advancement of gender equality status and congratulatory speeches from guests.
A pledge performance where the mayor and residents together shout the theme of this year’s Gender Equality Week, ‘Working Together and Happily Equal Mapo,’ is also prepared.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the same day, related organizations such as those supporting women’s employment and entrepreneurship will provide various programs and information at the Mapo-gu Office plaza under the themes of work, care, safety, and happiness. There will be introductions to gender equality projects, crime prevention promotions, experiential programs, and food markets.
In addition, the Mapo Women’s Companion Center plans to enhance awareness of gender equality through various programs such as the Women’s Records Academy Exhibition (until September 13), Running to Take Care of Myself (until September 27), and Gender Equality Film Screening (September 5 at 7 p.m.).
Mapo-gu has achieved the distinction of being designated as a women-friendly city for three consecutive times?the first among Seoul’s autonomous districts?through continuous efforts in providing safety services via public-private cooperation, including expanding women’s safety infrastructure, and education and projects to raise awareness of gender equality.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We will once again reflect on the value of gender equality and lead efforts to create a society where all residents are respected and share happiness.”
