On the 29th (local time), at East Lake Golf Club (par 71, 7,490 yards) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Im shot a 2-under 69 in the first round of the 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs (PO) final third round Tour Championship on the PGA Tour. Adding a stroke bonus of 3-under par, he stood tied for 14th place at 5-under par. After three consecutive bogeys on holes 1 to 3, he joined the under-par group with back-to-back birdies on holes 5 and 6 and "stepping stone birdies" on holes 12 and 14. He added another birdie on the final 18th hole (par 5) to improve his position.
The third round of the FedEx Cup PO is a tournament where the top-performing players of the season gather. Only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup rankings qualified for the Tour Championship. It is a "bonus tournament" played without a cut-off. Unlike the regular season, the Tour Championship gives an advantage to players with higher points. The first-place player starts with a 10-under par stroke advantage. Players ranked 2nd to 5th receive bonuses ranging from 5 to 8 under par according to their rank. Those ranked 6th to 10th get 4 under par, 11th to 15th get 3 under par, 16th to 20th get 2 under par, 21st to 25th get 1 under par, and 26th to 30th start at even par, with these differences applied accordingly.
