Adding a stroke bonus of 3-under par, he stood tied for 14th place at 5-under par. After three consecutive bogeys on holes 1 to 3, he joined the under-par group with back-to-back birdies on holes 5 and 6 and "stepping stone birdies" on holes 12 and 14.
