On the afternoon of Friday, the 23rd of last month, when Go Dong-jin, a member of the National Assembly from the People Power Party, appeared, there was a burst of exclamations. Those cheering were not voters, but teenagers in high school without voting rights.

That day, Assemblyman Go held the 4th Youth Mentoring event at Dankook University Affiliated Software High School located in Daechi-dong, his electoral district. Gangnam-byeong, Go's constituency, is known for its prestigious high schools with a strong academic zeal even within Gangnam. The Daechi-dong academy district also falls within Go's constituency.

Dankook University Affiliated Software High School is a specialized high school aimed at nurturing software professionals for the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The students have exceptional self-esteem, confident in their responsibility for Korea's software and AI future. Instead of dreaming of medical school, these students aspire to join companies like Samsung Electronics, Naver, and Google.

The visit happened by chance. Assemblyman Go explained, "While campaigning for the general election, I happened to meet a former colleague from my Samsung days who told me they were working as a teacher at Dankook University Affiliated Software High School. So, I promised to come give a lecture."

Go did not forget his promise. It was surprising enough that an ace developer who made Galaxy phones at Samsung Electronics was now teaching at a high school, but even more unusual was that his former boss?not just any executive, but the former CEO?had become a member of the National Assembly and was willing to give a lecture for high school students.

The news that the former CEO of the company students dreamed of joining was visiting spread quickly. Although many teenagers use iPhones, software majors certainly knew the 'legend of Galaxy.' Students holding Go's book, "What is Work," gathered in the lecture hall. They simply wanted to hear directly from Go, who started from scratch and reached the top. Go appeared before the students not as a politician but as a senior in life and industry.

Questions like "How can I get into Samsung?" and "How should I live my life?" did not stop. Go's advice followed, including lectures on health management, reading books, and trends in AI and semiconductors by this 'top instructor.' Even after answering pre-submitted questions, the event went well over the scheduled time, ending after two hours. According to the school, Go did not make a single political remark.

Moon Hyun-seo, a second-year student, said, "The assemblyman's advice went beyond simple career success and refreshingly addressed questions about the life ahead. This mentoring became an important turning point that clarified the direction to move forward and awakened latent potential."

Principal Bae Cheol-ho said, "I was initially bewildered when someone I never imagined visited us said they would come. There is no better stimulus for the students than this."

Assemblyman Go said, "True conservatism is guiding youth to be able to work. There is nowhere in the country I cannot go for mentoring."

Perhaps Go's sincerity to lead the youth was conveyed. Three days after the mentoring, on the 26th of last month, Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, unusually appointed the first-term Assemblyman Go as the chair of the party's talent recruitment committee.
