KOSPI Slightly Rises on Net Buying by Individuals and Institutions

The KOSPI closed higher as individual and institutional investors' net buying outweighed foreign investors' net selling.


On the 28th, the KOSPI closed at 2,689.83, up 0.58 points (0.02%) from the previous trading day.


On that day, the index remained flat without a clear direction. From the start of the session, the index stayed slightly down due to foreign investors' net selling. However, in the afternoon, strong net buying by individuals and institutions recovered the losses, ultimately turning the market upward by the close.


By investor type, individuals and institutions net bought 61.6 billion KRW and 245.8 billion KRW, respectively. Conversely, foreign investors net sold 343.5 billion KRW.


By sector, pharmaceuticals rose 2.49%, while transportation equipment and machinery increased by more than 1%. Manufacturing, electrical and electronics, and transportation and warehousing sectors also saw slight gains. On the other hand, construction fell 2.66%, and steel and metals, finance, textiles and apparel, electricity and gas, distribution, and chemicals declined by more than 1%.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 76,400 KRW, up 600 KRW (0.79%) from the previous trading day. Hyundai Motor rose 4.65%, and SK Hynix and Kia jumped over 2%. Samsung Biologics also increased by 1.85%. Conversely, Shinhan Financial Group dropped 3.52%, LG Energy Solution, KB Financial Group, POSCO Holdings, and NAVER fell more than 2%, and LG Chem declined 1.75%.


On that day, 260 KOSPI stocks rose without any hitting the upper limit, 628 stocks fell without any hitting the lower limit, and 49 stocks remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ closed at 762.50, down 2.45 points (0.32%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, individuals and institutions net bought 63 billion KRW and 15.9 billion KRW, respectively. Foreign investors net sold 80.8 billion KRW.


By sector, finance fell 2.27%, while paper and wood, medical precision instruments, and metals declined by more than 1%. Food, beverages and tobacco, chemicals, and textiles and apparel also saw slight decreases. Conversely, machinery and equipment rose 1.10%, and other manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and distribution sectors saw slight gains.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Alteogen closed at 319,000 KRW, up 4,000 KRW (1.27%) from the previous trading day. Rino Industrial and HPSP rose 4.23% and 2.93%, respectively. Conversely, Classys fell 5.23%, and EcoPro declined 3.12%. EcoPro BM, Samchundang Pharm, Celltrion Pharm, and Rainbow Robotics also dropped more than 2%.


On that day in the KOSDAQ, seven stocks including The Technology, Plantynet, Daebong LS, Kaelum, Shinseway, and Pintel hit the upper limit, with a total of 560 stocks rising. Without any hitting the lower limit, 1,023 stocks fell, and 87 stocks remained unchanged.
