Professor Ri Gwanghun of University of Seoul Elected as the 70th President of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers

One-Year Term Starting from 2026

Seoul City University announced on the 28th that Professor Lee Gwang-hoon of the Department of Mechanical and Information Engineering at the College of Engineering has been elected as the 70th president of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Professor Lee will serve as the senior vice president for one year starting January 1st next year, and then take on the one-year term as president of the society from 2026.


The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers was founded on September 5, 1945, and is recognized for leading the academic and technological development in the field of mechanical engineering in Korea. Currently, the society operates 13 divisions, 8 branches, 5 research groups, and the Future Mechanical Strategy Research Institute, with approximately 30,000 members actively participating.


Professor Lee stated that he will be involved in all aspects of the society’s work and play a key role in strengthening cooperation among industry, academia, and research in the field of mechanical engineering. He also plans to focus on expanding the role of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers in the mid to long term.


Currently, Professor Lee serves as the vice president of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers and the head of the Plant Division. As the director of the Seoul City University Liquefied Hydrogen Research Center, he is actively conducting research on small hydrogen liquefiers and liquefied hydrogen storage technologies.
