The largest event in the domestic venture industry, the ‘Venture Summer Forum,’ was held in Seoul on the 20th.
The Korea Venture Business Association hosted the ‘22nd Venture Summer Forum × Seoul 2024’ under the theme ‘Everything about Ventures_Seeking Your Chance’ at the FKI Tower Conference Center in Yeouido, Seoul. Unlike previous Venture Summer Forums held in provincial areas, this event was held in Seoul for the first time to expand participation from venture companies. About 500 attendees, including venture entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the venture ecosystem, participated in the event.
Seong Sang-yeop, Chairman of the Korea Venture Business Association, said in his welcoming remarks, “In this era of extreme uncertainty, more challenging than ever, I hope this will be a time to share the growth concerns of venture companies, encourage each other, broaden perspectives on essential growth factors such as venture investment and global expansion, and find cooperative partners.”
The forum featured programs designed to create opportunities for collaboration among participants, including the ‘Global Story Session,’ ‘Investment Story Session,’ and ‘Lunch and Dinner Networking_Venture Class SSUM.’
In the Global Story Session, under the theme ‘Innovative Venture Companies Leading the Global Market,’ speakers such as Lee Se-young, CEO of Ryuten, Lee Joo-wan, CEO of Megazone Cloud, and Jung Se-ju, Chairman of the Board of Noom, discussed the challenges and growth of innovative venture companies leading the global market in overseas markets.
Additionally, the Korea Venture Business Association launched the ‘Venture+Investment Alliance,’ a cooperative network connecting various investment entities to promote private-sector-led financial support and venture investment activation. A total of 35 institutions participated, including policy financial institutions, venture capital (VC), securities firms (IB), corporate venture capital (CVC), and overseas investors. Notable participants include Korea Development Bank, Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, Korea Technology Finance Corporation, Bokwang Investment, Parksha Capital, Yozma Group Korea, Shinhan Venture Investment, TS Investment, and NH Investment & Securities.
Kang Seok-hoon, Chairman of Korea Development Bank, explained ‘The Role of Venture Companies, the Korean Economy, and the Development Bank.’ He also shared opinions on ‘The Direction Venture Companies and Venture Investment Should Take in an Era of Uncertainty’ and ‘Local Rules and Global Standards, Government Regulations, and Investment Contracts.’
The Investment Story Session, themed ‘Opportunities in Future Markets Sought by Investors,’ featured Jeon Hwa-seong, CEO of CNT Tech, who presented ways to bridge the gap between investors’ and founders’ perspectives on investment success conditions and future market outlooks. Choi Dong-yeol, Head of Investment at Stonebridge Ventures, discussed Stonebridge’s investment direction for domestic startups, and Lee Ki-ha, CEO of Primer Sazze Partners, examined the necessity and strategies for domestic VCs and startups to expand overseas.
