The Aircraft Noise Association held a special forum on the 16th at 2 PM at the National Assembly Museum, attended by 100 members, in collaboration with the office of National Assembly member Lee Yong-seon. The forum, themed "Public Noise Damage Status and Improvement Measures (Subtitle: Focusing on Airport Noise Damage)," aimed to build public consensus on public noise and present directions for future progress.

Prior to the forum, the inauguration ceremony was held where Jeon Jeong-hwan, the current Vice President of the Korea Youth Development Association and CEO of Dwelling, was inaugurated as president. He pledged to actively address noise issues arising for the public good and to improve the quality of life for the people.

The Aircraft Noise Association was founded in 2015 with the goal of establishing a nationwide network for aircraft noise countermeasures. Through securing expertise in aircraft noise, conducting research projects, analyzing the status of aircraft noise damage, and spreading public consensus, the association has demanded practical compensation from the government.

Since 2016, it has been operating the Resident Support Center for Airport Noise Countermeasures under private consignment from Seoul City, and in 2019, it was recognized as a nationwide noise countermeasure organization by managing the Jeju Airport Noise Center under consignment.

National Assembly member Lee Yong-seon, who has focused on airport noise issues including the representative proposal of amendments to the Airport Noise Act, praised the efforts of the Aircraft Noise Association in his congratulatory speech and stated, "I will do my best until the bill passes to achieve fair compensation for airport noise damage."

Seo Young-seok, a National Assembly member representing Bucheon, a noise-affected area near Gimpo Airport, urged citizens’ participation and promised support, saying that as more citizens demand policy development and alternatives beyond simple slogans and protests, opportunities for problem-solving will open.

In his inauguration speech, President Jeon Jeong-hwan defined noise generated for the public good as public noise, explained the continuously increasing public noise, criticized the government's complacent measures, and proposed the role of the Aircraft Noise Association as a unified channel to represent the voices of affected residents, receiving enthusiastic applause from attendees.

Until now, airport noise policies have been classified as the responsibility of the central government’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, excluding metropolitan local governments and local councils where airports are actually located from discussions and countermeasures, causing a serious disconnect with citizens. The same context applies to public noise facilities such as railroads, roads, and ports.

On this day, Jo Eun-won was appointed as chairman of the board, and Park Yong-moon as director, signaling expected active future activities.

Starting with the inauguration ceremony and forum, the Aircraft Noise Association pledged to stand on the side of citizens across the entire public noise sector, to continuously communicate and discuss, and to lead efforts to improve systems and enhance the quality of life for the people.
