The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will implement the Neulbom School program in all elementary and special schools citywide in the second half of this year, and will pilot the Daejeon Online School.
The Neulbom School program will be fully implemented in all 151 elementary schools and 6 special schools. To stably provide programs for the expanded Neulbom School, the Office of Education has secured excellent program providers, including 8 local universities, the Daejeon Sports Council, the Korea Forest Service, related organizations, and non-profit organizations.
Additionally, 157 administrative staff dedicated to the Neulbom School will be assigned?one per school?to reduce the burden on schools and lay the foundation for the full-scale expansion of the Neulbom School program. The Office also requested the installation of a dedicated online mall for purchasing Neulbom School supplies in Daejeon, where all necessary items will be gathered in one place for schools to access.
To address the lack of school space and support students' healthy growth through sports activities utilizing local resources, the Office plans to establish 'Neulbom Sports Zones' in densely populated school areas such as Noeun and Doan districts, in connection with education special zones. The sports offered will include fencing, table tennis, and shooting, and will be operated for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade elementary students, three days a week for two hours each session.
Daejeon Online School and Daejeon Dungok Elementary and Middle School will also open. Daejeon Online School is currently undergoing facility renovations at the annex of Shintan Jungang Middle School, with 13 state-of-the-art digital classrooms and a management office set to be completed by the end of September for online classes.
The school will offer 26 courses in 14 subjects, focusing on those difficult to provide at regular schools, with participation expected from about 200 students across 21 local high schools. Until the Daejeon Online School is completed, interactive classes will be conducted using the online studio at the Daejeon Gubong High School Online Joint Education Hub Center, starting with the second semester.
Daejeon Dungok Elementary and Middle School, the first integrated kindergarten, elementary, and middle school in the Daejeon area, will also open on September 1. The school will have a basement floor and four above-ground floors, with 6 kindergarten classes, 17 elementary classes, and 3 middle school classes, totaling 26 classes.
Jung Heungchae, Director of Education at the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "We will make thorough preparations so that there are no disruptions to educational activities in the second semester for students' happy school life," and added, "Daejeon education will do its best to foster creative and convergent talents and to strengthen future competencies."
