Boryeong City announced on the 14th that it received the Grand Prize (Governor's Award) at the 5th Chungcheongnam-do Mugunghwa Excellent Potted Plant Contest, hosted by the Chungnam Forest Resources Research Institute. Kim Youngdon, an official from the Parks and Greenery Division, received a Special Award from the Chief of the Korea Forest Service.
The Mugunghwa Excellent Potted Plant Contest was organized to elevate the status of the national flower, Mugunghwa, and to promote its excellence.
This year’s evaluation focused on the unique characteristics and color of each variety, overall harmony, shape, growth condition, artistry, manageability, and aesthetics.
Mayor Kim Dongil stated, "We will continue to cherish and cultivate Mugunghwa, the national flower that has shared both glory and hardship with our people, and do our utmost to carry on the noble spirit of our ancestors."
Meanwhile, in celebration of Liberation Day on the 15th, the city plans to display about 20 potted Mugunghwa trees at Sinpyeonggyo Bridge for the public. At the Boryeong Mugunghwa Arboretum, visitors can enjoy a variety of Mugunghwa flowers free of charge.
