President Lee Haewoo: "We Will Advance as a Glocal University Fostering Talent for Strategic Industries"
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) and Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) successfully hosted the "2024 Glocal University Main Designation Innovation Forum."
The forum, held on the 12th at the Wyndham Grand Busan Hotel in Songdo, was organized ahead of the face-to-face evaluation for Glocal University selection. It included the final report on the execution plan for the main designation of Glocal University, sharing of best practices through a workshop with representatives from universities selected last year, and a Q&A session regarding preparations (face-to-face evaluation, member interviews) and operations of Glocal University.
Over 100 participants attended the event, including President Lee of Dong-A University, President Jang of Dongseo University, Kim Guiok, Director of Youth and Industry-Academia Affairs at Busan Metropolitan City, Professor Jang Deokhyeon of Pusan National University (former Director of Planning), and Park Jusik, Director of Planning at University of Ulsan.
On this day, Noh Youngjin, Director of Planning at Dong-A University, delivered the final report on the execution plan for the main designation of the Dong-A University?Dongseo University Glocal University, presenting innovative initiatives such as the "Establishment of an Open-Type Private University Consortium" and "Integrated Industrial Complex-Based Field Campus Consortium." The vision was also presented for Dong-A University and Dongseo University to become a locally rooted Glocal University that realizes mutual benefits for Busan City and the universities through the successful implementation of these initiatives.
During the subsequent Glocal University Operation Innovation Workshop, discussions were held on practical methods for providing new opportunities for collaboration and building an integrated cooperation model.
In addition to planning officers from Dong-A University and Dongseo University, Professor Jang Deokhyeon of Pusan National University and Park Jusik, Director of Planning at University of Ulsan?both of whom served as planning directors at universities selected for the main designation last year?shared valuable advice on the face-to-face evaluation process and key considerations for promoting Glocal University initiatives.
President Lee stated, "I would like to once again express my gratitude to everyone who participated more actively than anyone else in the long and challenging process of preliminary designation, preparation of the execution plan, and communication with members. Given the capabilities demonstrated by Dong-A University and Dongseo University so far, I have no doubt that the results will be positive. However, as we approach the crucial face-to-face evaluation, I urge everyone to do their best until the end to achieve a successful outcome."
He continued, "I sincerely hope that Dong-A University and Dongseo University will be finally selected as Glocal Universities, grow into true Glocal Universities that nurture talent tailored to regional strategic industries, and that Busan will be revitalized by outstanding locally rooted talent produced by the universities, transforming Busan into a 'city of population vitality' as envisioned by the city government."
