Prime Minister Han: "Easing Concentration in the Capital Area... Opening an Era of Livable Provinces"

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo stated on the 8th that "the most important thing for the livelihood economy is the revitalization of the regional economy" and pledged to ease the concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area.

At the awards ceremony for the National Local Government Job Awards held at EL Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, Prime Minister Han emphasized in his congratulatory speech, "We must ensure that achievements such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), exports, and investments lead to actual recovery of livelihoods and expansion of domestic demand."

Prime Minister Han said, "When local industries revive and quality jobs are created, young people will gather in the regions, and with that strength, the regions will come back to life," adding, "the government will vigorously support regions to become the main actors themselves, create creative development models, and generate various success stories."

He continued, "If the regions revive and balanced national development is achieved, many of the problems we face, such as youth employment, housing issues, and low birth rates, will be resolved," and "the government will ease the concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area and open an era of livable regions everywhere through bold regulatory innovation, corporate relocation to local areas, and investment promotion."

He added, "We will create quality jobs and establish good living spaces to build a foundation that attracts more young people to the regions."

Prime Minister Han said, "Gyeongsangnam-do, which won the grand prize this year, created the largest number of jobs ever through fostering future new industries and supporting private sector jobs," and "Gwangju Metropolitan City, which won the metropolitan local government award, established an innovative care system called 'Gwangju-daum Integrated Care'."
