Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Monitors Senior Health with Advanced Technology

Gwangsan-gu provides non-face-to-face health management services using artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) to local elderly people who are frail, have chronic diseases, or need improvement in health management behaviors.

The service is delivered through a mobile app called ‘Oneul Geongang’ (Today’s Health) and health measurement smart devices, where public health center nurses offer customized non-face-to-face health management services for six months. The health measurement smart devices include four types: a wristwatch-type activity tracker, a scale, a blood pressure monitor, and a blood glucose meter. The wristwatch-type activity tracker and scale are provided to all participants, while the blood pressure monitor and blood glucose meter are selectively supported after health assessment.

The elderly health management project targets 200 smartphone-owning residents of Gwangsan-gu aged 65 or older, excluding those with long-term care grades, those eligible for self-measurement device support from the National Health Insurance Service, and iPhone users.
