Meet 'Joayang' at Yongin City Hall... Promotion Zone and Goods Shop Open

Following Giheung Station, '2nd Branch'
96 Types of Cushions and Dolls for Sale

At Yongin City Hall in Gyeonggi Province, visitors can now find various goods featuring the city character 'Joayang'.


On the 6th, Yongin City announced that on the 5th, it had established and started operating the 'Joayang Promotion Zone' on the first floor of the city hall, covering an area of 82㎡, to revitalize the city character.

This area includes a ‘Story Zone’ that introduces the birth and various transformations of Joayang, a ‘Joayang Life Four-Cut Photo Zone’ where visitors can take free sticker photos using Yongin City Points, a ‘Photo Zone’ where visitors can take pictures with Joayang, a ‘Media Zone’ featuring 3D animations, a ‘Goods Exhibition Zone’ displaying collaborative products, and a ‘Goods Shop’ selling character merchandise.


The Goods Shop is the second offline sales space following the ‘Joayang in Store’ located at Giheung Station transfer center on the Yongin Light Rail, which opened in April 2022. The city explained that many citizens had requested a sales space in a more accessible location since previously, to purchase Joayang goods, they had to transfer trains or buy tickets to enter Giheung Station.


The Goods Shop sells 96 types of items including cushions, keyrings, grip holders, mugs, tumblers, and eco bags. The Yongin Regional Self-Support Center manages the operation, and the sales proceeds are used to support self-sufficiency for low-income groups. The Promotion Zone and Goods Shop operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.


About 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, Yoo Jin-seon, Chairperson of Yongin City Council, and Kim Yang-hee, Director of the Yongin Regional Self-Support Center. Mayor Lee said, "I hope that through this space, Joayang will receive more love and become more widely known."


To commemorate the opening of the Joayang Promotion Zone, the city is holding an event until the 23rd where 50 citizens who post photos of their visit on social networking services (SNS) will be selected by lottery to receive 20 Joayang cushions and 30 coffee coupons. Additionally, citizens who watch the ‘Online Promotion Zone Housewarming’ shorts video on Yongin City’s YouTube channel JoayangTV and leave a comment by the 11th will be entered into a draw to win chicken coupons for 20 people.


Meanwhile, this year, the Year of the Blue Dragon, Yongin City collaborated with Samsung C&T Everland to sell 42 types of character collaboration products featuring Joayang and Everland’s popular character ‘Resi (Lesser Panda)’ at the souvenir shop inside Everland, gaining popularity. In May, the city also launched ‘Yongin Baekok Rice’ designed using Joayang.
