Allegations of Personal Information Protection Act Violations
The police have launched an investigation into residents who referred to residents who stopped collective action and returned to the hospital as 'collaborators' and disclosed their personal information on online communities.
On the 2nd, the Cyber Investigation Unit 1 of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency identified two suspects who disclosed the real names and other personal information of returning residents on medical communities and social networking services (SNS), and announced that one of the residents is being investigated on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
They are suspected of posting lists of returning residents on online communities from June 28 to July 4 and referring to them as 'collaborators' on July 5. They posted the real names of residents working at university hospitals nationwide on an anonymous medical community, along with their departments and student numbers, writing that 'we must remember the collaborators.'
Accordingly, the police received a request for investigation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Education, identified the two suspects through a search and seizure on the 19th of the same month, and began investigating one resident on the 1st of this month.
The police stated, "We plan to strictly investigate similar online activities in the future."
