A judoka who won his first Olympic medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics suffered a shoulder dislocation injury while celebrating in joy.

On the 29th of last month (local time), at the Champs de Mars arena in Paris, France, Adil Osmanov (24), the national representative of the Eastern European country Moldova, defeated Italy's Manuel Lombardo (25) in the men's 73kg judo semifinal to win the bronze medal. That day, when the referee raised his hand to declare his victory, Osmanov shouted with excitement, clenched his fist, and swung his right arm in a victory celebration. However, he soon grimaced, grabbed his shoulder, and lowered his head.

The British Daily Mail reported, "Excited Osmanov threw his right arm after the result announcement, and his joy quickly turned into pain," stating that he suffered a shoulder dislocation injury because he swung his arm too hard. The moment Osmanov swung his right arm in celebration and then showed signs of pain was broadcast live worldwide. Afterwards, videos of him quickly spread through social media.

Fortunately, after receiving emergency treatment, Osmanov was able to step onto the podium without any issues and receive his first Olympic medal.

He had been advised to undergo shoulder surgery before participating in the Olympics but reportedly postponed treatment until after the competition. In a post-match interview, Osmanov said, "I didn't feel good in my shoulder area from the time I was preparing," but added, "It had happened before, so I couldn't back down." He said, "Competing in the Olympics was my dream, and I am even happier to have won a medal," and dedicated the medal to his late father.

Osmanov started judo in 2011 at the age of 11, encouraged by his father. He said, "I grew up in a 'sports family' where my father, mother, and siblings all participate in sports," and added, "The goal in sports is to realize yourself as much as possible."
