In Sokcho, Gangwon Province, a driver in her 60s suddenly accelerated while reversing, hitting other vehicles and pedestrians. Among the victims was a mother and daughter traveling together, with the daughter tragically losing her life.

On the 25th, police reported that around 6:10 PM the previous day, a passenger car driven by a woman in her 60s, identified as A, struck four vehicles and two pedestrians consecutively while reversing on a road in Dongmyeong-dong, Sokcho, Gangwon Province. The car only came to a stop after reversing about 60 meters from the initial point of impact.

As a result of the accident, pedestrians B (68) and C (43) sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital. The two were mother and daughter who had traveled from Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province to Sokcho when the accident occurred. The mother survived, but the daughter ultimately passed away. It was also reported that another pedestrian and three vehicle occupants were injured, but none of their injuries were life-threatening.

Witnesses described, "The sound was so loud, like a gas explosion 'bang,' that it startled us." The driver told police, "There was a problem with the car," and explained, "I put the gear in reverse, but suddenly the speed increased." Investigations confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Based on the statements, the police plan to have the vehicle's event data recorder examined and analyze CCTV and black box footage to accurately determine the cause of the accident.
