Golfweek DeChambeau's Round Review of Trump
Handicap 2 Player, Expert in Driver and Putting
Trump Turnberry, Patrick Reed's Special 'Affection'
Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is a 'golf enthusiast.' He politically leverages golf so well that he even challenged recently withdrawn Democratic presidential candidate President Joe Biden to an 18-hole shot match. During his presidency, he was also known for practicing golf diplomacy during overseas trips.
U.S. Golfweek recently highlighted Trump's exceptional love for golf. They prominently reported a video of Trump playing a round with 'The Hulk' Bryson DeChambeau (USA). The round took place after DeChambeau won the major US Open last month. Since there was no bandage on the right ear of Trump, it appears the video was shot before the shooting incident on the 13th. The location was Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, a place Trump and his close associates often visit on weekends to play golf.
The game was played in a format where both players tee off with their own balls, and from the second shot until holing out, they chose the better ball between the two to play. They recorded a combined 22-under par with 12 birdies and 5 eagles that day. The 78-year-old Trump made eagles and successfully made several long putts. His driving distance reached as far as 225 yards.
Golfweek evaluated, "Trump's swing is much more effective than it looks. Especially his driver and putting are excellent." His tee shots faded from left to right, landing in the middle of the fairway. "The takeaway is ordinary, but during the downswing, he shows good speed and a consistent plane," adding, "Essence is more important than style. His hand-eye coordination is outstanding."
They also highly praised his putting ability. "He uses a traditional putting style. It's hard to believe he is 78 years old. He shows a consistent motion like the pendulum of a clock. There is no wobble," they said. The media named Trump's favorite golf course as Trump Turnberry in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) excluded this course from the Open Championship rotation after Trump acquired it. Trump’s favorite golfer is Patrick Reed (USA), the 2018 Masters champion, who currently plays in LIV Golf rather than the PGA Tour.

Trump has a handicap of 2, making him the best golfer among U.S. presidents. He has won 19 club tournaments. After his inauguration in January 2017, he played an impressive 62 rounds in 10 months. He has driven the ball up to 280 yards. In August 2013, he recorded his personal best score of 2-under par 70. In October 2017, during a meeting with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, he made headlines by scoring 73 in strong winds.
He is a 'golf tycoon' who started his golf business in 1999. He purchased golf courses worldwide and branded them with the Trump name. There are a total of 16 courses: 12 in the U.S., 2 in Scotland, 1 in Ireland, and 1 in the United Arab Emirates. Seven are public courses, and nine are private clubs. Additionally, two Trump-owned golf courses in Indonesia and one in Dubai are set to open soon.
