Yoon: "The major opposition party is obsessed with political strife... Politics is holding back the Republic of Korea"

Attended People Power Party Convention for 2 Consecutive Years
"Supporting a Livelihood Party and a Competent Policy Party"

President Yoon Suk-yeol sharply criticized on the 23rd, saying, "The major opposition party is engrossed in political strife, ignoring urgent livelihood issues and time-sensitive economic policies," adding, "Politics is holding back the progress of the Republic of Korea, which has a long way to go."

President Yoon made these remarks while attending the People Power Party's 4th Party Convention held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. He attended the party convention for the second consecutive year, following last year's March 8th convention where former leader Kim Ki-hyun was elected after his inauguration.

In his congratulatory speech, President Yoon pointed out, "No matter how much we want to work, the political situation makes it difficult to do so properly," and noted, "It has been almost two months since the 22nd National Assembly began, but it is essentially a business suspension." He continued, "To overcome the extreme minority government situation and propel this country forward again, above all, united strength is necessary," emphasizing, "This is why our party must become one."

He also mentioned, "Since entering politics, my goal has been only one thing," stating, "To restore a broken country, rebuild the difficult livelihood and economy, and make the Republic of Korea leap forward anew."

President Yoon said, "As the ruling party responsible for the future of the Republic of Korea, we are a community of shared fate on the same boat and one," urging, "The party and government must unite to solve the difficulties of people's livelihoods and make the people happy." He explained, "When the party and government become one team and work solely for the people, the people will give us even greater support."

He particularly reiterated the importance of unity and cohesion among party members amid difficult political circumstances. President Yoon said, "What kind of party the People Power Party becomes and what kind of country the Republic of Korea becomes will be decided by the thoughts and judgments of all party members," and added, "I believe that today's party convention will be recorded as a moment that opens a new history of unity and integration."

Furthermore, he stated, "At this party convention, a new party leader and leadership team that will lead our party in the future will be elected," adding, "As the president and the party's number one member, I will strongly support the People Power Party to be reborn as a livelihood party that resonates with the people and a competent policy party."

President Yoon left the party convention hall immediately after his speech without listening to the voting results.
